This desk lamp has both personal and simple qualities to it. In fact, those were the two words I set out to design my lamp after. The lamp does more in the function of ambient light settings than the traditional lamp for lighting one’s desk. The desk lamp focuses its attention on setting a mood for the home environment or workplace.
The ’switch’ for the lamp is quite exciting and very intuitive. The intensity of the light can be adjusted simply by placing a hand upon the top dome. The light then pulsates between low and bright light until the user decides to take his/her hand off the lamp at which point the lamp stays at that brightness.
Furthermore, the base is just as functional as the actual light. The base is two-toned in both color and material with the lower three quarters made of stainless steel and the upper quarter being a slightly concave, white plastic surface. The base of most current lamps is used only to support the upper half of the lamp and not functional in any other manner. The concave surface allows one to place small items (such as keys, a phone, etc). The bow in the surface also serves in making the lamp look lightweight and efficient in use of material.
